N-Zo's Hair Studios "HEAT-FREE HAIR MOVEMENT"

So, I am AMPED about this post! Do y'all recognize that face above?! Some of you may remember my Captured Curls feature with the gorgeous  Ngozi Opara (if not you can click here so your memory can be refreshed). Well, Ngozi owns a hair studio in DC called "N-Zo Hair Studios" and is starting a fabulous movement that advocates for women with natural hair to wear their hair in low maintenance protective styles that require no use of heat. Since I am currently hosting TGHPSC I was stoked that she wanted to team up with me to get the ball rolling! As you all know, I've been wearing Marley twists the past month but this Friday Ngozi will be weaving me up so I can join her amazing heat free hair movement. I am so excited for my new protective style, my kinky curly weave will last me about 12 weeks. Ngozi and I will be documenting my growth, length retention and MORE so this should be FUN!

I am really happy about this movement because I feel like naturals in my DC metro area now have a choice when it comes to wearing  their hair in a fun protective style and a good EDUCATED stylist who's AFFORDABLE, to install it. Ngozi knows her stuff and when it comes to weaving up a head of hair, her work is amazing and she prides herself in not damaging our strands or taking away from all the hard work and effort we take to grow our hair. Having the option to get a weave install that looks and feels like our natural texture is great! Not every natural wants to weave a long straight weave when she wants to take a break from her hair.

Pixel Potions Review x Challenge

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of reviewing 2 products from Pixel Potions line! You all know that trying new goodies is my favorite thing to do so when the company reached out to me I was all for it. Pixel Potions sent me their leave in conditioner and nourishing nectar, both of which I enjoyed. Under the jump of this post you can find out more about the brand and the grow out challenge they are hosting, I think you ladies might like the perks that come along with entering.

So, let's jump right in...

The nectar that was sent to me  is a light oil mix that consists  Olive oil, Coconut oil, Sweet Almond oil, Castor oil, Lemongrass oil, Orange oil. It's not too greasy/heavy  and has a really pleasant smell. On the site it's described as a miracle oil.  It can be used in so many ways to seal in moisture and add incredible shine.  The light oil mixture can be used on wet or dry hair and it can also be mixed with your favorite shampoo, conditioner, leave-in or styling aide. If you are looking for a light weight oil that can also be used to seal, I would highly recommend trying this one.

As I mentioned early, I also received their leave in. Leave-in conditioners are my favorite! Pixel Potions leave-in is awesome. It's lightweight and meant to be used on wet hair to help eliminate single strand knots.

The ingredients include: Purified Water, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Caprylic/Capryic  by Text-Enhance">Triglycerides, Castor Oil, DMDM Hydantion, Fragrance,Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Silk Protein

I used the products on my Marley twists and after my take down I was so surprised at how soft it left my hair a week later. I am definitely pleased with Pixel Potions new line!

Loc'd Man: Reggie

Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
Well my name is Reggie. I’m 28 years young, from St. Louis, MO. I’m currently a graduate student at Lindenwood University getting an M.A. in Communications with a Promotions emphasis. iWrite.

How long have you been growing your locs?
This is actually my second time loc’ing my hair. The first time I had them for about 2.5 years. With my current locs, it will be three years in March.

What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
I use a couple different products depending on the season, or how my locs are doing. Lately, I have been using Ixora Botanical Beauty’s Macani Miracle Butter. I mostly use butters and creams for twisting my hair. As for shampoos, I have been using Shea Moisture products as of late.

Captured Curls: Dasha

   Please introduce yourself!
My name is Dasha (pron. Day-shuh) Parker, and I am 21 years old. I was born, raised, and currently reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I love trying new things, and change is my best friend. That actually led me on my natural journey but that’s another story. Anything that involves food, travel, good music, and positive energy strikes me. I am currently an undergraduate Business Student, studying Accounting, but one day I hope to be able to unleash my creative side. Hopefully sooner than later (:

What is your current hair regimen?
I start by pre-pooing my hair with coconut oil and castor oil mixed with my Deep Conditioner of choice, every 2 weeks, depending on my hair’s condition. I allow it to sit for 30+ minutes, and wash with semi warm-cool water. DCing first helps me to shorten the time I spend in the shower, and removes the extra steps of getting in and out. I try to be as low key as possible. Then, I cleanse by cowashing or  shampooing depending on the type of products used. When cleansing I use a cheapie silicone free conditioner, such as Tresemme Naturals or VO5, and whatever shampoo I can put my hands on first. I don’t pay much attention to shampoos, because for me they all work the same, or can be diluted/tweaked by adding an oil to work for my hair. However, one of my favorites is Giovanni Tea Tree Tingle. I love it because it really opens up my pores- I suffer from an easily irritated, itchy scalp and it really helps to soothe it. I always follow up by conditioning, alternating between a protein and moisture rich formula every few weeks. I have very coily hair, that’s frizz prone, so I prefer the thick rich conditioners that smooths  and provide extra slip for easy, light finger detangling while in the shower. Follow up with a leave in conditioner, seal hair and coat my scalp with an oil and detangle my hair while wet, prior to styling.
